COLUMBIA, S.C.— Using funds from a Spring promotion aimed at helping students and parents get a better assessment on their educational needs, Sylvan Learning Center’s two sites in the Midlands donated $1,120 to Ezekiel Ministries this week.
Ezekiel Ministries is a Columbia-based program started in 2009 that asks mentors to make long-term investment in children’s lives in order to help them make better decisions, grow stronger families, and change communities.
In April and May of this year, the Sylvan centers in Irmo and Columbia donated $10 for each family that purchased a $29 assessment fee, which is normally $199. In addition, Sylvan corporate donated a percentage of the assessment cost.
“Sylvan’s focus is on helping children and parents become more comfortable in school,” said Amy Gardner, the Sylvan Learning Center franchise owner in the Midlands. “A lot of students who relied on afterschool programs could not get to them because of the pandemic. This is our way of helping those programs and children.”
