GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the second year in a row, RealOp Investments has been recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in South Carolina with a ranking of 23 out of the state’s 25 top performing companies.
This year’s SC TOP 25 highest ranking companies, SC Excellence in Business Awards and SC Economic Impact Award were announced Oct. 22 as part of the annual 25 Fastest Growing Companies ceremony at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia.
“We are deeply honored to be receiving this honor for a second time,” said Kyle Putman, RealOp’s president and a principal. “It shows that many of the strategies and decisions we have made in the past few years were strong ones.”
RealOp Investments is a private equity firm founded in 2009 specializing in value-add and opportunistic real estate investments. With deep roots in the Southeast, its investment strategy spans multiple asset classes and is based on a relationship-driven pursuit of value, not only in identifying off-market opportunities, but in creating value through innovative capitalization structures, management expertise and the execution of unique strategies tailored to each asset.
Now in its 18th year, the SC TOP 25 Fastest Growing Companies competition recognizes the achievements of top-performing private and publicly owned companies that have contributed to South Carolina’s economy through exceptional increases in revenues and employment.
To be eligible for the SC 25 Fastest Growing Companies Award, the company must be headquartered in South Carolina, be in business for at least three years and show revenues of more than $3 million in the last fiscal year. The companies are selected on the percentage growth of their income over the last three years and the percentage growth of their employment.
25 Fastest Growing Companies, which includes SC TOP 25, SC Excellence in Business Awards and SC Economic Impact Award, was founded as a way to honor the Palmetto State’s most dynamic businesses and their contributions to the state’s economic vitality. The program is presented by The Capital Corporation, and co-sponsored by Integrated Media Publishing (publisher of Greenville Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly and Charleston Business Magazine), A.T. Locke Total Accounting, PNC Bank and HUB International Carolinas.
Reggie Bell, RealOp’s CEO and one of its principals, said the company strives to stay true to its core value of offering a different model for investors looking to expand their real estate portfolios.
“That mission has been the main driver of our growth,” Bell said. “We are proud of where we have been and where we plan to be.”
Paul Sparks, RealOp’s chairman and principal, said RealOp serves more than 340 tenants and currently holds around 4 million square feet of office and 1 million square feet of industrial assets valued at $450 million in five states and nine markets throughout the Southeast. It has generated more than 400 jobs through repositioning underutilized properties and companies.
In the past few years, RealOp has grown from a small firm with a single office in Greenville, to a company with close to 40 employees and offices in Greenville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Nashville and Tampa. In addition, the firm has acquired two of the most iconic buildings in South Carolina: 101 North Main Tower in Greenville and the Gervais tower in Columbia.
“We are not about awards and getting honored,” Sparks said. “But there is an appreciation for it because it highlights the success and abilities of the team we have put together.”
