Behind every successful public relations campaign is a system of carefully crafted connections, unique advertisements and months of creative branding. Public relations is tactical, technical and emotional. Although this is just the tip of the iceberg, here are few insights that make PR succeed without a hitch.
Establishing a Social Media Relationship: Telling a great story is an essential part of the social experience. It’s essential that you know your audience when it comes to telling a good story via social media. However, building a relationship with your audience doesn’t just happen overnight. When it comes to dating, your tactic isn’t to go on that first date with a wedding ring in your pocket right? You have to build credibility, friendship and networks first. And if that is your dating tactic, perhaps you should reconsider.
Understanding the media: They aren’t out to get you. Relax. They will work with you because above anything, local media desires an interesting story. The media is going to look to you to tell it. However, you need to make sure your news is worth their time. Worst case scenario, they’ll ignore you next time if your last story made their eyelids heavy.
Diversifying what you do: Social media may seem like the end-all be-all, but it isn’t. Don’t put all your eggs in the social media advertisement basket. Write creative website content, make videos and heck you can even go a little old school by designing posters. Don’t get me wrong, we have nothing against an Instagram with “clout.” However, if you want people to check out your social media, you have to drive them there somehow.
Building a Brand – To build your brand the easy way you need to have people waiting at the door. If you’re opening a new restaurant, how do you expect to get people there on opening night? You can’t just open the doors and expect people to be lined up out there. Hype it up. Get people excited weeks leading up to the event. Building a brand is no different, no matter what area you’re trying to promote. If you want people to be excited, you need to be your biggest fan.
We wish we had all the answers. Since we don’t, this should do for now.
