.Writing well is literally one of the most important parts of being a PR Professional, so tightening up your writing and being direct is really important. I mean, maybe you think your writing sounds good, but check out the stuff below and learn a few things that can make your writing amazing.
- Really: “Really” is a word you say in conversation. In writing, you shouldn’t try to convince the reader. If it was a “really” big fish, then it was still a big fish. There’s no need for using the word in your writing, so cut it.
- Perhaps/maybe: If I’m reading an article and it says “perhaps” or “maybe” I’m starting to think that the author doesn’t really know what he or she is writing about.
- Amazing:This is an overused word that has lost its punch. Does whatever you’re writing about causing great wonder or surprise? I doubt it. Drop the word.
- Literally:The only reason I can think of where using this word would be acceptable is if you write something that sound like you might be joking, but you aren’t. Ditch this word too.
- Stuff/Things:I t’s casual, generic, there’s a better word for what you’re trying to say. I promise. Stop using these words in blog titles.
- Very: This is evil cousin of really. If you find yourself using very to describe something, just don’t. Find another word. Very is weak.
Hah, reread the intro paragraph… see what I did? That paragraph should be enough reason for you to drop all of these words.
